Green Commitment - ITRA Green Charter

We support ITRA's Green Program. All information about the ITRA Green Charter and Green program can goals be found on the ITRA website. Below you can find information about our our Green Commitment.

Avoid ecologically fragile or sensitive areas

  • The Kokava Trail race course does not cross any large or small size nature protected areas in the region.

  • Race regulations contain: The participants must behave considerate of nature, they are not allowed to leave the marked tourist paths and the Kokava Trail race course needlessly.

  • No support team car entries out of tarmac roads except for one aid station and except for emergency cases (rescue service).

Reduce waste at source and support recycling

  • Large water canisters (jerrycans) being used instead of 2 L bottles for water supply for the aid stations.

  • Waste sorting on aid stations as well as in the finish with a target to support recycling where possible.

  • The Kokava Trail race participants are not allowed to throw their rubbish away outside the staffed checkpoints or public waste bins. In case of breaking the rule there is a time penalty.

  • Participants have their own cups or equivalent as part of the mandatory equipment. No reusable cups available on the aid stations.

  • Biodegradable night marking will be used. For the day part we are preparing a change from the classic plastic ribbons, however, it is a bit tricky here due to specific cases of marking damaging-stealing behavior a kind of widespread in our country.

  • Eliminate printed brochures/leaflets/vouchers - we will have race bibs and small itinerary as part of the start pack only (in fact no start packs), these two items are usually being kept by the participants as a "souvenir".

  • Material (like tents, desks etc etc) sharing is a practice we have used in our association for 10 years.

  • Swag (participant T-shirt) is just an optional item in the registration form.

  • Ceramic handmade medals only for top 3 runners in 4 categories, no finisher medals

Reduce the event’s carbon footprint

  • Race is focused to attract the local runners from close places.

  • We are going to encourage the participants for car sharing or using public transport. The same is valid for volunteers (focus on car sharing).

Recycling and waste management

  • Waste collection will be set up.

  • Excess food and drinks are either donated for charitable purposes or re-used in the next race depending on the due date.

Support local

  • Local pasties (e.g. cakes etc) will be provided.

  • Only vegan hot meals for participants in the finish

  • Aid station food (e.g. soup) without meat, mostly vegetarian or vegan refreshments used.
