Information
Kokava Trail is a mountain ultramarathon race and long distance march for individuals, which will take place on 7.-8. September 2024. The race course with total distance 78 km is situated in the Veporské vrchy and Stolické vrchy mountains in Slovakia. The organizer of the race is o.z. SLOVAK ULTRA TRAIL.
Since 2015 O.z. SLOVAK ULTRA TRAIL is a member of ITRA (International Trailrunning Association).

Kokava Trail race is a part of the ITRA National League.

The Kokava Trail course is certified by ITRA (3 points), results for ITRA will be sent as results in the mail Men and Women categories.

The points for finishing the course with a dog will be valid for the contest Ranking based on participation only.

In case of interest to participate together with a dog it is necessary to contact the race organizer via mail sent to kokavatrail@gmail.com (subsequently further information will be provided). The participation with a dog without approval from race organizer is not allowed. The result from participation with a dog is not included in the SUT League and Small SUT League contest within the Slovak Ultratrail League (only to the Ranking based on participation contest) and also not to the results for ITRA.

Discounts based on ITRA performance index (category GENERAL):
Men with 750 and more points: discount 50%
Men with 800 and more points: discount 100%
Women with 600 and more points: discount 50%
Women with 650 and more points: discount 100%
This discounts are applicable only for the basic start fee (65 EUR). In case you are eligible for the discount based on the ITRA Performance Index (General), please check the respective checkbox in the registration form. Subsequently the ITRA Performance Index will be checked on the ITRA Performance Index and the basic start fee will be updated in the registration system, after which the registered participant will receive a new e-mail with updated payment information.
How to find out the actual ITRA performance index: search with your name and surname on the ITRA website, if your profile is found, click on it and search the New Performance Index in category GENERAL.
Race bibs distribution (check-in):
On Friday 6. September 2024 you participants collect the race bib in the House of culture in Kokava nad Rimavicou (Námestie 1. mája square 159/10) between 18.00 and 22.30 CET. On Saturday 7. September 2024 morning the race bibs distribution (check-in) will take place in the same building between 05.30 and 06.30 CET. The condition of participation is to bring an filled-in and signed Informed consent (Participiant’s declaration) document valid for Kokava Trail 2024 to the race bibs distribution (check-in) place in Kokava nad Rimavicou.
Start:
Kokava nad Rimavicou - Námestie 1. mája square (in front of the House of culture) on Saturday 7. September 2024 at 07.00 CET (all Kokava Trail race participants start together).
Aid stations:
There will be aid stations with refreshments placed on the course. In the same places there will be also the checkpoints with electronic timekeeping. Here is the list of Kokava Trail race aid stations/checkpoints including the link for online map, distance from start and time limit information.

K1 Utekáč - next to the Hostinec v horách pub (8. km) - time limit: Saturday 7. September until 09:00 CET

K2 Kokava - Línia - Family boarding house (16,5. km) - time limit: Saturday 7. September until 11:00 CET

K3 Bratkovica (33. km) - time limit: Saturday 7. September until 14:45 CET

K4 Táňovo - cabin (44. km) - time limit: Saturday 7. September until 17:00 CET

K5 Málinec - culture house (55,5. km)- time limit: Saturday 7. September until 19:30 CET

K6 Ďubákovo - Informačné centrum (68,5. km) - time limit: Saturday 7. September until 23:15 CET
Live checkpoints will be marked with labels including checkpoint number, name of the place, distance and time limit including distance and elevation to the next checkpoint with its time limit.
There will be no unstaffed checkpoints (like passwords, punches or similar). There will be at least one unannounced live checkpoint. One missing checkpoint results in disqualification of the participant.
Time limit:
The total time limit for completing the Kokava Trail race course is 18,5 hours (until 01:30 CET on Sunday 8. September 2024).
Finish:
The finish of Kokava Trail is in the House of culture in Kokava nad Rimavicou (Námestie 1. mája square 159/10).
Parking:
Parking for the race participants will be available from Friday 18.00 CET in the local football stadium area in Kokava nad Rimavicou, volunteer will be present here.
Limited number of parking places is at the parking lot next to the bus station. Please, ensure you don't block the road for the buses here.
A small parking lot is next to the railway (Mateja Hrebendu street) and also in the Štúrova street close to the U Táni pub.

Please note:
The race organizer reserves the right to change the course, time limits of the checkpoints and event schedule or to cancel the event (especially for participants safety reason). In such case the registered participants will be informed via e-mail.
The Stolické and Veporské vrchy are one of the areas in Slovakia with brown bear appearance, as well as other wild animals.
The course is going through several hamlets (e.g. before the Diel signpost, Šutova jama) where it is possible to meet local dogs (sometimes not tethered).
WARNINGS - RACE COURSE (INFORMATON FROM 31. AUGUST AND 1. SEPTEMBER 2024):

Please close all fence controllers ("gates"), there are several ones on the Kokava Trail course (Štefančíkovci hamlet, farm before the Diel summit...).

Descent from the Pasiečky summit towards Langovo - the path is rocky and steep here.

On the meadow after Langovo when descending to the Utekáč village (local yellow tourist mark) there are usually cows. After the meadow end (already in the forest) there is a fence controller.

In the first part of the ascent to the Drahová summit (Rovienky), there are some logging leftovers on the path and in parallel with the course there is a new forest road. We recommend to follow the GPX course here.

After coming to the Polianky meadows there were cows. Please ensure you will close all fence controllers here.

The course on the Drahová summit goes to the benches and then returns to the path. The course is marked as in GPX.

The spring well after the Drahová summit (Kremeňovo - on the left side of the path) is usable.

Prameň Ipľa (spring well) - there was enough water to cool down. The distance from the course (turn left) is approx. 100 meters.

Before reaching the asphalt road close to Látky village there is a fallen tree, bypass on the meadow (5 meters).

Descent to the Smolná creek after the Chocholná signpost - this passage is newly marked with the tourist marks, which follow on 90 percent the course of our race. This is a little bit wilder place, follow the marking and GPX. There is also a fallen tree in this passage.

On the forest road after crossing the Smolná creek there were some leftovers from the close logging activities.

Turning left to the aid station K4 Táňovo - cabin (44. km) and returning to the tourist path - follow the race course marking and the GPX here.

On the red marked tourist path descending to Prieraz - the path has been damaged by water.

Before Šutova jama (on the left side) there is a house, where a smaller dog is often not tethered.

After descending from Šutova jama to the creek - there is a short muddy passage.

The path before the Málinec village has been damaged by water.

Please ignore the A4 sheets with arrows of a local beer hike in the forest above Málinec village.

Before the Štefančíkovci hamlet there was a short muddy passage - use the left side of the path here.

When descending from the Diel summit, be careful in this approx. 300 m long passage - the path is damaged by water and there are several deep holes there.
